The forty-ninth edition of the Sopot Film Festival, in the executive production of the Belgrade Festivals Centre – CEBEF and in cooperation with the Sopot Cultural Centre, will be held from July 11 to 17, 2021 at the Sopot Cultural Centre.
On this occasion, we had a short conversation with some of the filmmakers whose films will be shown this year, about their attitude towards the festival in Sopot.
‘I hope that this year's double festival edition will give the audience in Sopot double satisfaction. Over twenty domestic films in one place, screened within a few days, represents something that not even more developed cinema than ours would be ashamed of, and visitors will surely be able to choose films to their liking.’
Ana Maria Rossi, film ‘Ajvar’

‘The Sopot Film Festival is a festival with a long tradition, which, despite the passing attempts of some other festivals, over time imposed itself and survived as our national festival, which is a concept that should deepen in the coming years. What attracts me the most is the nature of the Sopot region and the casual, unrestrained atmosphere of the festival.’
Mladen Djordjević, film ‘Vienna Hallways’

‘The Sopot Film Festival is very dear and important to me, especially since I won my first Grand Prix for the film “Redemption Street”, which I produced, co-wrote the screenplay and played the leading role, and I am especially glad that this year, when the film “Common Story” will be shown in Sopot, the competition is much bigger.’
Gordan Kičić, film ‘Common Story’

This year's Sopot Film Festival will provide admirers of film art with a unique opportunity to follow the expanded Festival programme, considering that during July 2020, the Festival was not held due to the worsened epidemiological situation. This year, thanks to the mentioned integration of the programme, the audience will be able to see the entire production of the domestic film from the last two years in one place.
During the seven days of the Sopot Festival, 23 films in the Competition Programme, four films out of competition, as well as four films for children will be screened. A special addition to this year's event will be short films by young filmmakers.
In addition to film screenings, the Sopot Film Festival will have a diverse accompanying programme which, alongside the traditional opening ceremony of the festival with a parade of film crews, honorary awards, concert programme and fireworks, will include a panel discussion, exhibition…
The slogan of this year's festival, ‘On the Eve of the Jubilee’, reminds and announces that the Festival will celebrate its jubilee 50th edition next year.
