‘Live the Moment’ Season of Art Music of the Belgrade Festivals Centre

Kolarac Endowment, Saturday 22 May at 8 p.m.
Karol Beffa, a famous French-Swiss composer, pianist and musicologist, presents himself to the Belgrade audience for the first time in an exciting and unusual musical performance – performing piano improvisations on themes given by the audience!
Beffa is a two-time winner of the prestigious Victoires de la musique classique award in the Best Composer category. The French Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music (SACEM) awarded him their Grand Prix for all his work in the field of symphonic music.
The award-winning book by Carol Beffa and mathematician Cédric Villani ‘Les coulisses de la creation’ (Behind the Scenes of Creation), published by the Centre for the Promotion of Science and the Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) was recently translated into Serbian. At the invitation of these institutions, within the ‘May, Month of Mathematics’ programme of The Centre for the Promotion of Science (CPN), Karol Beffa will have a conversation with visitors in the Concert Hall of the Kolarac Endowment (at 6 p.m. – moderator Dr Vesna Todorčević), after which he will sign his book. At the same time, the promotion of the book is part of the official programme of the ‘Molière Days’ event of the French Institute in Serbia.

Socializing with Karol Beffa continues at his solo concert (at 8 p.m.), where the artist will improvise on various topics (not only music) that will be given to him by our audience:
‘They say that improvising means composing and performing at the same time, without preparation, a poem, an aria, a speech. It can be just one word – "Tristan" – or some imaginary encounter, for example between Don Juan and Carmen… Or some fictional work – "Bach's Tango". Everything can be imagined and expressed through music. Audience is the only judge!’ (Karol Beffa)
The CEBEF art music season is being realized with the support of the City of Belgrade and the Ministry of Culture and Information.
