Cultural Summer in Belgrade Begins!

The 28th BELEF

 

The Belgrade Summer Festival, the 28th BELEF, is organized by the Belgrade Festivals Centre (CEBEF), under the auspices of the Belgrade City Assembly, from the 21st of June to the seventh of July 2019. At this year's Summer Festival, twenty outstanding cultural programmes will be presented, including concerts, theatre plays, theatre plays for the youngest, exhibitions and dance performances.
The visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy theatre plays at the Kalemegdan Fortress, dance performances at Tasmajdan Park and Kalemegdan, a theatre spectacle at the Port of Belgrade, an exhibition at the French Institute, the premiere of a musical in the Institution of Culture ‘Vuk Stefanović Karadzić’, while the largest part of the Festival programme will take place at the plateau area in front of the Military Museum.
A theatre spectacle, the play ‘Antigone – 2000 Years Later’, performed by the Ulysses Theatre, will open this year's BELEF at the Port of Belgrade on the 21st of June 2019. One of the main roles is interpreted by the acting doyen Rade Šerbedžija, who appears in front of the Belgrade theatre audience after nearly three decades. On the Festival opening day, at the French Institute at 7 p.m, an exhibition by Kristijan Antolović, an award-winning Irish photographer, will be presented.

 

Programme of the 28th BELEF
In the theatrical part of this year's BELEF programme, after the spectacle ‘Antigone’ at the opening of the Festival, the audience will have the opportunity to watch the premiere of the musical ‘The Cave’, which is an integral part of the project ‘All in All’ of the author and composer Ivan Ilić, in the context of Plato's allegory of the Cave, in the Institution of Culture ‘Vuk Stefanović Karadžić’; then, ‘As though I Have Dreamt of You’, a play in which the protagonists in the form of monologue recite and sing verses of famous Serbian and world poets; the play ‘The Great Wave’ of the author Igor Amadei (produced by Zvezdara Theatre), which delights audiences with each performance. For the youngest, the morning play ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, written and directed by Sonja Knežević, as well as the play ‘The Legend about Courage’, a children's theatre with acrobatic elements, will be performed at the plateau in front of the Military Museum.
   
The Mimart Theatre, which this year celebrates 35 years of work and will represent Serbia in Plovdiv, European Capital of Culture, will present the art performance ‘Light Codes’ at BELEF. The performance of French artists entitled ‘Happy Manif’, a joyful dance promenade inspired by nature, will be presented at the Kalemegdan Park and Tašmajdan Park. The exhibition of the art colony 'Ada Sculptural Workshop' will present works of art that are placed in public space, and left to the City of Belgrade. The Festival will also feature a very unique performance named ‘Bloody Mary’ of an Israeli artist Merav Dagan. The young visitors of the Festival will be able to attend the unique performance of the popular YouTuber Baka Prase (Grandma the Piglet). In the musical part of the Festival programme, the audience will be able to attend a concert called the ‘Queen Symphony Show’ of one of the best tribute bands of the Queen; the morning concert by composer Vera Milanković performed by the Choir of the Children's Cultural Centre Belgrade; the concert of The Vienna Salonorchestra; the concert of the popular band Mostar Sevdah Reunion; the concert of the Old Hat Orchestra with soloists Dragoljub Bajić, Ljubica Vraneš and Marija Jelić. The audience will be able to enjoy the performance of the outstanding violinist Ilija Marinković, as well as the exceptional ensemble Ođila. At the Festival’s closing ceremony on the seventh of July, Marko Hatlak Band will perform with a special guest, the unrivaled Vlatko Stefanovski.
